In modern society, rapid development of scientific civilization causes human complications and gap. Under the present circumstances, realization of Buddhist literature could be a proper plan for necessary rehumanization.
Especially, in Korean modern poetry, Buddhism appears in poetry in close connection with literature. Kim Dal Jin is one of the poets who realized Buddhism properly in poetry. This thesis researched on how Buddhism of the 『Avatamska Sutra』 realized in poetry. Kim Dal Jin's poetry characterizes not only poetic substitution of Buddhism but also transformation of literary imagination.
The first characteristic is 『freedom from all obstacles』. 『Freedom from all obstacles』 means spirit of freedom. In Kim Dal Jin's poetry, an idea of 『freedom from all obstacles』 is expressed as liberal ideas that union of an idea and reality.
The second characteristic is 『Buddhist compassion』, 『Buddhist compassion』 entered upon a new phase not only compassion for mankind but also consideration for ensuring the new poetic world from restoration of identification of god that the object of worship. By doing this, reader can enter upon a new phase as being in harmony with god through ensuring of subjective vision beyond a phase of question of existentialism.
The third characteristic of Buddhism appeared in Kim Dal Jin's poetry has relevance to the plan which can overcome the awareness of a ecological crisis. Equalitarianism is the heart of a question of ecological restoration work. Such equalitarianism regard relationship between human and nature as complementary cooperation. In such complementary relationship, he thought human could have absolute freedom.
In Kim Dal Jin's poetry, such an idea plays an important role as a means to overcome difficulty of reality by union of human and nature. That is to say, human, nature and god exist together not that they exist as individualized objects but that they exist as complementary relationship in the basis of equalitarianism.
