This study aims at explore the narrative feature and thematic embodiment through the born-to folk tale in the chapter 24 of Kyongpan and 71 of Wanpan of <Simchung Jeon>.
We can consider the cause of the earthly-world hardship and characters through the folk tale of preexistence in Kyongpan. Conversely, the folk tale of preexistence inserts in the born-to folk tale and reveals them in Wanpan.
As a result of consideration of thematic embodiment through the born-to folk tale, We can clarify that Simchung’s filial devotion provides the possibility like this paradigm ; preexistence-present life-life after death-the second present life in Kyongpan. And the born-to folk tale works on the completion of that paradigm and the narrative structure.
On the other hand, We can find the basis to think of Simchung’s filial piety in two different ways in Wanpan. One is to regard Simchung’s filial piety as the expiation of sins committed in her previous existence, the other is to treat it as the consequences of parents' virtue and devotion.
While We can get the former conclusion when We regard Simchung’s present life as the consequence of preexistence, The latter is the conclusion that we gain by grasping her born-to folk tale of the earthly world on the meaning of the context itself.
