Ⅰ. Gwag Jigun's Melodrama
When we states on dir, Gwag' s film, we cannot discuss but only his melodrama. His films are strong in sentimentalism. These films don't make to call audience's tears but dir. Gwag trys to get out of old korean melodrama which is chidish and not refine and to show his characteristics narrative melodrama form.
He has made 9 films, 〈Gyeowool Nageune 겨울나그네〉(1986), 〈Du Yejae eui Jip 두 여자의 집〉(1987), 〈Geu hurodo Oraetdongan 그 후로도 오랫동안〉 (1989), 〈Sangcheo 상처〉(1989), 〈Jeolmoonnal eui Chosang 젊은 날의 초상〉 (1990), 〈Ihonhajianneun Yeja 이혼하지 않는 여자〉(1992), 〈Jangmi eui Nanal 장미의 나날〉(1994), 〈Gipeun Seulpeum 깊은 슬픔〉(1997), 〈Chongchoon 청춘〉(2000).
Ⅱ. Toward positive film's life from negative daily life
To see the movie for dir. Gawg in his childhood is a road to contact with the another world. A media such as movie positively comes to him with a meaning from twenties'.
After his graduated from Seoul art's college he starts to be assistant director with Cho, Munjin and Lim, Gweontag and No Sehan and Bae, Changho to make 18 works during 7years. He makes successedly his first film, (Gyeowool Nageune(겨울 나그네) in 1986 with his much experience on making film.
Ⅲ. His Works' World from analyzing his Characters
Dir, Gwag has consistant theme and belief on his film. He has expressed love and human's relations, death and despair, hope in his works. He creates characters such as neglected person from society and wondered human because of fighting to his inner pains, so he has question about life through his films with audience. He concludes and stresses that a ture hope is to get through getting over those pains.
Ⅵ. The Spirit of Filmmaker to reflect on life
Dir, Gwag who stresses the description of psychology and to make the rescue drama simillar to dir, Yu, Hyeonmok to pursue dealing human's despair and inner problems and also human's rescue. Dir. Gwag also empasises a theme which discusses on human's relation, rescue such as dir, Yu..
Ⅵ. Conclusion
Dir. Gwag has contenously telled human's various emotion such as despairs, pains, love, the appointed mind of life and also he tried to tell a hope for life through his melodrama. He asserts distinction melodrama from 1980' s Korean melodrama. Finally he reflects our life which is to be perceived in living with audience. It is overcoming the heavy theme of death and living for the freedom of life.
