The intellectual leaders in the seventeenth and eighteenth century were the members of noron group. Their political stands were "Punishing Manchurian Qing" and "Loyalty to the Ming dynasty." In terms of academic tendency, Neo-Confucian righteousness dominated noron group. Hong Daeyong and Park Jiweon who were in Bukhakpa tried to find a new way of learning in this atmosphere.
Hong had learned at the school, Sukshilseoweon(石室書院) and had a question about the argument about confrontation of noron and soron between Uam and Yoon Jeung when he was twenty-one years old. At this time Hong intensively had many contacts with young scholars and met Park Jiweon after all. Park Yoonweon, Park Jiweon's relative, attended the school where Hong attended Therefore, it assumed that Park Yoonweon introduced Park Jiweon and Hand Daeyong each other. Hong and Park shared academic opinions and made close friendship. Especially, Hong seemed to intensively convey his knowledge and ideas to Park four years from 1755 to 1759. Not only Park but also many Bukhakpa members shared Hong's idea that time. This thing appears on Gwajeongrok.
Hong had stayed at Naju and Cheonan and enlarge his scientific knowledge until thirty-five years old. When he became forty-two years old, second intensive contacts with Park Jiweon were made. Park's idea as a Bukhakpa member seemed to be completely built up at that time. Park's first contact with Hong established the fundamental of Bukhakpa ideas and second contact finished its major structure. Park's work, Yeolhailgi shows that Hong suggested many things to Park and Park tried to find answers of them.
Many researchers evaluate Park Jiweon as a founder of Bukhakpa. Of course, it is obvious that many Bukhakpa members learned from Park. We, however, cannot deny that Park absorbed a lot of Hong's idea, therefore we should consider Hong Daeyong as a founding father of Bukhakpa. Hong's scientific knowledge and ideas of Western learning were built by his frequent travels to Beijing and he thought these ideas as an alternative of Neo-Confucianism which already revealed its limitation on the real world.
