The Purpose of this study is to analyze types, locations and characteristics of central place functions in Incheon by assuming that centrality of industry is appraised by arithmetic model, as well as Zipf's law. The implementation of this study can be summarized as follows: ① There are 31 industries and 36 industries - so called as 'central place functions' - in each 1995 and 2005. ② There are 3 types of central place functions - business and commercial central place functions, community-level central place functions and unusually distributed functions - in 1995, and there are also 3 types of central place functions - business central place functions, commercial central place functions and community-level central place functions - in 2005. ③ There are some changes in characteristics of central place functions from 1995 to 2005. Firstly, business and commercial central places are divided to business central places and commercial central places. Secondly, community-level central places are shifted from inner city to outskirts of incheon because of new urban developments. Thirdly, some industries consisting central place functions are replaced with the others had have advantages in new social situations - behavioral changes on shopping patterns, advances of transportation and telecommunication and so on.
