An adolescent period is a very important to their lives. Young adults's thoughts and their identities are expressed in literature of youth. So the aim of this thesis is to study the meaning of growth-narrative of woman in literature of youth, especially The Diary of Gikn-yeo and Hiking Girls.
These texts are narrated with the first person, therefore are represented inside of main characters who are so ‘cool' teenage girls. The main character Gik-nyeo of The Diary of Giknyeo is early maturity of mind. And she was awakened through trivial round of daily lives. She was a problem student but sought her dream, evetually decided to be a nurse. Gik-nyeo was effected by her ant from America.
In case of Hiking Girls, main character Eun-Sung is a problem student too. And she used violence to her classmates, therefore she came to the Silk Road. Eun-Sung and Bo-ra went on a hike to the Silk Road instead of juvenile reformatory. So her walking tour is a tour of searching for self identity. In the process of tour, Eun-Sung reminded her past days and forgave her mother. She realized motherhood and took heart to start new hiking.
These woman characters made sure self-identity. But The Diary of Gikn-yeo and Hiking Girls is focused on not The Symbolic but growth-subject. That is a character of literature of youth.
