The question of regionalism has assumed new dimensions and various regions of the international system seem to take solace in the need for, and efficacy of regional development. The more the international economy globalizes, the greater the attention paid to regional groupings to assuage some of the negative implications of the present international economic order.
In this context, the geopolitical identity of sub-Saharan french-speaking countries is an issue to be reconsidered so as to uplift the possibility of successful integration of this sub-region. This study focuses at first on the linguistic situation within the geopolitical bloc of 17 ancient colonies of France and Belgium, in West and Central Africa. Secondly, the senegalese case of democratic political development is analysed to overview the situation of the region as a whole, And there follows a general description of each country, including social changes occurred after the democratic wind blew all over the continent in the wake of the collapse of the Eastern bloc. Each country's relations with France and Korea are also mentioned for the purpose of deepening our knowledge on francophone sub-Saharan Africa in a global context.
Any way, it is only through proper governance and management of resources in a transparent and accountable manner that the region can forge ahead. Furthermore, the longer the intra and inter state conflict persists, the more difficult it would be for the sub-region to realize its goals. It's not a paradox that the major civil wars in the region are in francophone countries. This indicate, either by omission or commission that there is something wrong somewhere and the earlier positive steps are to be taken to redress the situation, promoting the peace and stability of the region.
