Currently, nations around the world are doing all out efforts to attract bonded cargo by resorting to facilities investment and tax support in order to develop their airports and ports into the center of logistics. In addition, with the advancement of high-tech IT technologies and the deepening competition among nations to secure logistics of the Northeast Asia, Korea is entering into a new phase in terms of cargo management for imports and exports and customs administration.
Since Korea's national wealth depends mostly on external trade, logistics for imports and exports have a great significance. Generally, the process flow for export logistics follows the order of manufacturing, warehouse, forwarder, inland transportation and airports/seaports. The process flow for import logistics follows the order of airports/seaports, forwarder, ODCY(Off Dock Container Yard), warehouse, inland transportation and ICD(Inland Container Depot).
Meanwhile, unlike customs clearance, the management of bonded cargo involves a number of external users. Thus, it can be successfully operated only when related IT and business environments need to be established in ways that they can send required information to the customs in advance through ED!.
Accordingly, through investigating and analyzing the process flow for logistics of bonded cargo, the study intends to identify problems by area and come up with ways to improve the management of bonded cargo in order to speed up logistics.
