This treatise takes account of the viewpoint of Hahak and the Dogiilchi in Seong Ho School's Academic accomplishment. I examined the main discourse by dividing it into two classes ; academic methodology and practical business for statecraft ideas.
During the 18th century, there emerged national crises stemmed from a social and economic transformation since the 17th century. It was bringing the various changes and contradictions in the feudal system of Chosun Dynasty. Experiencing the serious contradictions in the late Chosun, it was necessary that new academic trends and socio-economic theories securing national crises. Yi Ik was seeking to embrace various studies and ideologies in succession to the Southernist affiliated with the Northernists thought, and contributed to bring forth the school of Seong Ho, Therefore Yi Ik and his pupiles searched for a new academic trends to solve the comtemporary crises, they enforced the necessity of 'Hahak' and 'Dogiilchiron'.
Based upon the former academic trends, they came out of their critical attitude toward ideologies which neglected the aspect of practice. They denounced the ideological disputes among the scholars as futile talk because they conceived those disputes didn't do any good for the people. Their academic coloration and recognition of reality well the character of the period. They pursuited political-economy science to overcome the corrupt realities. Seong Ho School's viewpoint of Hahak was quite different from Chu Hsi's. They suggested the methodology for inquiring into knowledge on the ground of Dogiil to be above shapes and within shapes. It was intension to do unifying study of classical canon and practical business for statecraft ideas.
There is no doubt that academic trends of Hahak, Dogiilchiron were cope with socio-political problems in the main stream of Silhak, Then these point explain very well the characteristic of Seong Ho school's academic trends and state-reform theory.
