Report Errors
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the measuremnet way of cargo concentration and spatial network concentration by using Rimmer(1967) model and Burghouwt et al.(2003) model for Gini index for investigating the possibility of Incheon International airport as a Hub airport in Northeast Asia region.
The empirical analysis focused on the cargo concentration and spatial network concentration by using the cross section data of 1992 and 2001 among the 20 international world airports including Incheon internationa airport.
The core results of empirical analysis are as follows: first, application results of Rimmer(l967) model show that the degree of cargo concentration of Osaka, Singapore, Hongkong, Incheon, Sanfransisco, and Chicago airports were increased. Secondly, Gini index of Incheon airport by using Burghouwt et al.(2003) model was increased which induced the increase of cargo concentration level and spatial network concentration. Therefore, competition power of Incheon international airport was confirmed, however, to become a real hub airport, Incheon international airport should compete with the New York, Hongkong, Tokyo airports which also show the high level of spatial network concentration.
The policy planners of Korean airports and Incheon international airport should find out the factors which have influenced on the cargo concentration & deconcentration and the spatial network concentration among the world airports especially Northeast Asia airports with Incheon international airport. After that, they should decide and introduce the enhancement plan for improving the current situation for taking survival power competing with other airports located in Northeast Asia.
