The paper explores the proper definition of urban sustainability and measuring indicators which analyse whether the city development is carried on the right direction in the perspective of urban sustainability in the representative cities of the United States, such as Austin, Seattle, and Santa Monica.
The feasibility of urban sustainability is mostly dependent on the urban economic development. “The development of measuring indicator on the urban sustainability”is critically needed for urban economic development.
Hence, the study compares and analyzes the process and method of development of indicators for the urban sustainability aimed at the US cities as of selected country along with their ranges and characteristics. Secondly, it provides political implication towards the preferable development method and measuring indicators to Korean local governments introducing its goal as urban sustainability, and initiating development for urban sustainability indicators.
