Since the second half of 1997, there have been various endeavors to overcome the currency crisis, to establish proper policy dialogue on financial markets, and to manage regional financial problem in the East Asia, as a result. Especially, the financial cooperation of the ASEAN+ 3 is a kind of driving force to strengthen East Asian regionalism. Such as the Chiang Mai Initiative, the Asian Monetary Fund, and the Asian bond market are outcomes of the various endeavors developed by the constituent members of the region.
In the paper, diverse aspects of the East Asian monetary and financial cooperation would be examined. In order to achieve the purpose of the paper, the existing theories and essays on regional monetary cooperation in the East Asia would be reviewed with a political economic perspective. Finally, estimations and prospects on East Asian monetary and financial cooperation would be presented as a conclusion. In addition, an effective break-through to the successful East Asian monetary and financial cooperation is explained.
