The beauty of So-Wal's poem is in the rhythm. He made rhythm positively with hard working attitude. The poem had been corrected several times before the announcement. and each time. he fixed the rhythm.
The researchers studied meters. the special characteristic that So-Wal' s poem have until now. However. the beauty of a poem appears in rhyme not just in the meter. Thus, I would like to research about the rhyme So-Wal's poem in this treatise.
Traditionally. Korean poems didn't use rhymes. Due to the character of Korean language. Our language is agglutination that an affix follows the word, so it is difficult to use different kinds of last syllables. Also. the fact that our poem had been communicated through songs instead of reciting is another reason.
So-Wal tried hard to create rhymes by using the modem poetry in spite of not having rhyme history. He tried the end rhymes. At first. he tried it by changing lines, but he couldn't get away with the monotony. Thus. he could freely use the end rhymes by changing statement's sentential into a noun uninflectedword. So-Wal created the end rhymes for the first time in modem poetry history. however: it wasn't very successful.
So-Wal used alliteration and the middle rhyme Although his end rhyme-attempt was unsuccessful, alliteration and the middle rhyme made a big success. He used the characteristic of our language very well. and created the end rhyme and alliteration by making a poetic diction space bigger.
In our language. the verb's root doesn't change which expresses the sentence meaning relationships through various uses of ending. So-wall used unchanging verb's root to use verb's inflection form of repeating many times for making alliteration.
Also, So-Wal used chinese characters or dialects, uncommon language, as a poetic word to build uprhymes, and made them fantastically. Also, he created alliteration or middle rhyme by using enough repetitive poetic words.
Before understanding the meaning through well made rhyme's effect, his poem expresses poetic mood throughthe harmony of phonetic features.
Thus his poem is more directed than to understand, and it is the first poem that gave us the joy of reciting in our poetry history.
