The purpose of this paper is to make a comprehensive analysis of economic cooperation and to deduce specific business opportunities and methods of cooperation on trade and investment, especially on energy, logistics, and agricultural development between ROK and Russia.
It has been 20 years since diplomatic relations between ROK and Russia normalized. Recently economic cooperation has steadily developed in trade & investment sectors. According to 2010 data, Russia was the 12th largest importer of Korean goods and the 18th largest exporter to Korea. By the end June of 2010, the accumulative amount of Korean FDI toward Russia reached $1.51 bil.
Korea falls behind neighboring China and Japan in securing energy, raw materials, forest products, or import of resources. For stable procurement of vital resources and stimulation of economic cooperation, especially of investment fields, it is crucial for its investment and trade with Russia to be based on comprehensive and sytematized medium- and long-term strategies at governmental level.
