This study has intended to find improvement measures to enhance housing welfare services for the elderly with low income. Especially we focused on supplying a housing complex in accordance with the welfare.
We explored the literature regarding the welfare housing for the elderly and studied the real conditions of the housing for the elderly with low income. Also, we employed a survey method for the elderly and pre-elderly with low income to find the preferences of the elderly housing. The questionnaires consisted of the following sections: policies regarding elderly housing stability, locations and forms of elderly housing, facilities and programs of elderly housing, and service charge of elderly housing.
As a result, this study has found the following improvement measures: 1) to supply various elderly welfare housing having various functions for consumer-directed facilities and services; 2) out of consideration to the social mix, to construct the housing complex, targeted to aged people in low-income bracket, with service facilities and programs including administration, medical treatment, welfare within the complex or in neighboring area; and, 3) to consider existing houses as alternatives of elderly housing supply and share roles between related government bodies.
