The purpose of this study was to compare the housing service disparities among the regions for elderly households. For the study, the elderly housing was categorized in three regional groups: capital region, large cities and other areas including small cities and rural areas. The Annual Housing Survey 2014 was used as the primary source for the study.
In order to find the differences among the elderly households and housing conditions by the regions, ANOVA and χ² test were used to analyze the data. Result of analysis revealed that statistically significant regional disparities existed at 1% level among the elderly households and housing conditions.
The findings of the study show that the elderly housing is characterized as small household size, low educational level, and low income. Elderly households living in large cities had high rental income ratio while elderly households living in other areas including small cities and rural areas were living in old single-family housing with poor facilities. On the basis of the findings of the study, it was suggested that housing policies to minimize the disparities in elderly housing among the regions need to be developed.
