Nine years before Liberation was a period with abnormal structure. Busan had a characteristic as a munitions industrial complex so that munitions companies were concentrated in the same one place and protected in various ways. Therefore during the war period, manufacturing firms were separated from market competition and became poles apart in capital size and growth rate. The structure of companies was also adjusted to war needs and changed to comply with a policy request. On the other hand, Busan manufacturing corporations depending on domestic demands and local materials had been collapsed and manufacturing companies which had been growing through market competition home and abroad were blocked up from the opportunities of growth.
As a result, survived companies after Liberation were not ones with market competitiveness through harsh competition. The reason that Busan economy including manufacturing industry was hit more severely than in the rest of the country in the late 1940s after Liberation was not only external surroundings happened after Liberation but also there were very inherent and historical factors.
