Korean children’s literature have made rapid progress in 10 years. We can call the period, which children’s literature started to boom up (from the year 1999 to 2002), a Renaissance. At that time, children’s daily life was handled importantly and frequently in literary works. And most of writers watched a pain happened in children’s daily life.
Don’t Sale the Weapons, written by We-gi-chul, was published 2002. And this works also dealt with the daily life of children. But it has a difference in the way of dealing with the life comparing with other works. It found overtly the political side in children’s daily life. One of Japanese children’s literatrere, The Chocolate War, written by Oisi-makoto, was published 1965. Understanding he social background of japan around the year 1965 was important to analyze this book. At that time, Japanese Children’s book and social movement was very active. In this the current of the times, we can solve the meaning of The Chocolate War.
These two books, Don’t Sale the Weapons and The Chocolate War, reconsider children’s daily life politically. They find the political meaning in children’s life. Also they deal with children as a citizen (we think child as a just young person not a citizen in our society). Children in those books find their own problem and solve the problem freely, independently, and socially. In this story, we can see the autonomous children as a human being. With these books, we can seek the way of political imagination in Children’s literature. And. at the same time, we can reconsider the influence of the matter, in children’s literature, the adult has what kind of attitude toward children.
