Unravelling Four Funerals and Their Implications in Beowulf. The New Studies of English Language & Literature 51 (2012): 105-120. This article aims to investigate the recurring motif of funerals and their multiple implications embedded in Beowulf. Numerous textual evidences unfold the author’s vigorous depictions of the burials of King Sheafson, Queen Hildeburh’s brother and son, the Last Survivor of a war, and Beowulf. While portraying the four funerals, the writer delivers the various layers of significance involved with man’s life affairs and the circumstantial condition. Resounding the contemporary ambiences of the Anglo-Saxon Age charged with instability and vicissitude due to continual wars, the author propounds the procedure and representation of each funeral. The article examines the way in which the writer expounds the reiterated matters of human mortality and loss in the funerals, which are intimately connected with the crucial themes of Old English poetry － vicissitude, transitoriness, and the ironic consequence of man’s endeavors and enterprises.
