This study analyzed ‘Ugly Woman turned into Unusual Person’-type tales. Ugly woman characters with unusual behaviors in this type tale solve a problem of her family, society and nation using her special ability.
A hero/heroine is a person who not only fights with a sword/gun but also solves a problem of community from inner strength such as spirit and perception. Therefore, heroines should not be recognized not as a counter person of a hero but their existence should be found in woman’s life and their activities. Heroines are a figure who raises the issue of an absurd reality that they are facing, solves by themselves and restores new world order. Women in the tales have been analyzed as a unusual person but have heroic abilities.
The women’s abilities are not so dynamic, compared to heroes. However, the women recreate family order by representing women’s entire life and reestablish awareness about women. If not only a person who fights against a physical target but also a person who fights against absurd reality and society structure is defined as a hero, then the main character of ’Ugly Woman turned into Unusual Person’ is also a heroic figure.
