In this paper, the phonetic and morphological characteristics of loan words (in women’s fashions) in Japanese were investigated. As a result, abbreviations of the functional morphemes and stump words, hybrid words, open syllables, double consonant, Japanese localization of vowels (in English), and integration of consonants were found in Japanese loan words. Moreover, we found that there are five-, six-, or seven-moras words, five- and six-syllable words, and loan words. It was determined that such conclusions guide two important issues; the first of which is contributions toward the phonetic and morphological characteristics in loan words. Previous research has indicated there are abbreviations of the functional morphemes; however, such functional morphemes are not always abbreviated in loan words. The other issue is contributions to sociolinguistic research. Sociolinguistic research has two important focuses: that of cultural linguistics and that of an aspect of life concerning language. The former can be supported by which has the four to six moras and four- to six-syllable loan words. The latter can be supported by that there are not always abbreviations in loan words.
