This paper explores for methods to introduce sight translation and consecutive interpretation education utilizing Korean-Japanese or Japanese-Korean translation of newspaper editorials for prospective translators. The research compares students" translations of Korean editorials into Japanese and Japanese editorials into Korean, aiming to help students observe if their translation is free from translationese, communication-oriented and expression-oriented and produce applicable strategies. Methodologically this paper employs two different strategies: diversification and simplification and examines if the students can produce satisfactory outcomes in sight translation and consecutive translation by employing the strategies. First, diversification is defined as strategies to include diverse perspectives and interpretations in terms of expression, vocabulary and grammar. The examples reflect approaches including idiomatic expressions, diversification and generalization or clarification and grammatical choice of whether to use passive or causative, for example. Second, simplification is defined as strategies including ellipsis, contraction or reduction to deliverthe meaning of the source text fully and effectively through simpler target expressions. The examples are classified as the following two: simplification through ellipsis and simplification through contraction or reduction without significant changes of expressions or the vocabulary.
