In “Seito” by Raicho Hiratsuka, confident women became head starters to a new change in women’s advancement into society rather than assisting men’s lives. Throughout “Seito,” not only are the social structure and system at that time, the people who study women history, and the conflicts in the content stating women’s rights and equality stayed limited to an individual’s life or conflict, but also are viewed as a universal conflict, which allowed for Korean modern women writers to come into action. In “Woman Carrying a Lamp” by Moo-Sook Han, the story gives women’s hidden stories a part into history. Yet also, in feministic way, it describes each feminine aspect in each situation of mother-wife-daughter about how they could not have the right to require orderly feudal position and roles through the perspective of the character Young Hee. The patriarchal authoritative society representing women’s roles and position with reason and rationality to oppress women is well portrayed in Moo-Sook Han’s debut work in the literary field, “Woman Carrying a Lamp.” Ok-Boon who has an inferiority complex towards her social position, Young-Hee who wants to break from the custom, and Wan-Ock who wants to become a modern woman all skillfully depict how women’s lives are affected by the change in awareness of women’s daily life, the meaning of family framed by women and family, free love, and free marriage and the change in family life space.
