This study aims to investigate the effects of the integrated health improvement program for the elders who have not participated in the benefits of any health improvement program. The program integrates proper physical activity, nutrition education and psychological program for the improvement of mental health.
The subjects of this study were 20 male elders in a senior citizens center without a former health related program, which is located in the S district, Seoul. The program integrated the nutrition education based on physical activity and psychological program, and the integrated program was given for four weeks (twice a week, total 8 times). To verify the effects of the program, pre-and-post test and interview results on nutrition knowledge and depression were analyzed by SPSS 18.0.
The conclusions from this study are as follows.
After the program, nutrition knowledge did not show significant difference, but showed positive effects on eating habits. After the program, there was a significant effect on depression. Also, the elders were satisfied with contents of the integrated program including physical activity, nutrition and psychology.
