Evenki cover more territory than any other indigenous peoples in Siberia. Even though their traditional ways of life were not fishing but reindeer herding and hunting, for them the river was the center of the universe not only in the mythological but also in the real world. So the river was the center of their world view and the idea of death and the soul. Moreover, until now for Evenki the river plays the role of coordinates in reindeer herding in deep forests of taiga. Traditionally Evenki considered, that the world consists of 3 worlds - upper, middle and lower worlds. At first their model of the world was horizontal so as the river stream, but afterwards vertical world view was added to that, and there emerged a mixed view. Anyway the river remained as the central axis of the world. Besides for Evenki the river was the central axis in the cycle of reincarnation and location of the world of the dead, and this idea was realized in funeral rites. So Eenki made coffin in the form of boat and located that in accordance with the direction of river stream. As it is said, the river in the world view of Evenki is the main factor, that connects three worlds into one universe and the road, along that soul of the deceased go to the world of ancestors. So we can call it as the "World river" for Evenki so as the "Word tree" for the other indigenous peoples.
