Over the past few years a considerable number of studies have been made on the Korean wave. While much previous research has focused on area in popular music, little is known about overall macroscopic analysis of this phenomenon. What is not so widely understood, however, is great contribution to the globalization of the Korean culture. So here we limit the discussion to a holistic approach to the Korean wave.
The main objective of this study is to find motive power of the Korean wave. This thesis introduces a Lotman’s theoretical approach to explaining the mainstream culture and minority culture. It is based on an analytic method. Employing methodologies and theoretical approaches from the fields of cultural studies, this study explores the dialogic mechanism of the Korean wave. This research seeks to open up a new perspective of that phenomenon.
The significance of the study rests upon macroscopic contexts of the Korean wave. It needs further discussion about that.
