This paper aims to analyse Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West focused on demystifying American West. In this study, Blood Meridian was examined from the perspectives of nature, world, and human beings. It is impossible to find ideal West or frontier mind in Blood Meridian. McCarthy follows Puritan tradition of America, and the wilderness represents sin and death so should be civilized. ‘Manifest Destiny’ embodies the myths of colonial enlargement. However, McCarthy explores endangered human nature and civilization. Glanton Gang gathers human scalps which mean ‘receipts’ regardless of race, gender, or age. Scalp hunting is a symbol of extreme violence and inhumanity. Judge Holden, who was depicted as evil itself, exerts authority over the nature and the world. The unnamed boy, from birth to death, experiences merciless wilderness, brutal American Mexican war, and malicious violence. His death means the victory of moral heroism. The Judge, naked and dancing, demonstrates brutal and repetitive human history. ‘Meridian’ is midday when the sun is at the peak and it also means darkening and evening of the world. McCarthy reveals embellished American West through violence.
