The literal meaning of illustration is a general term for drawings, photographs, designs used to either help understanding or raise interest in books, magazines, newspaper etc. Today however, the concept of illustration cannot be limited just to these. By its nature, today`s illustration can be referred to all graphic or formative expressions other than symbols or signs among methods and ways that complement visual conveyance functions. In particular, ideas are especially important for ad illustration in order to effectively convey messages to sell products or images to customers. With the development of advertisement, ad illustration is called Essence of advertisement. Ad illustrations full of ideas attract the eyes of public, raise the value of the product the customers to purchase the product. For this reason, ad illustrations are used for sales promotion, the goal of advertisement, and corporate image PR. Moreover, advertisement effects can be optimized perfectly harmonizing advertisement ideas and expression. techniques. For this end, overall knowledge of the product and the capacity to understand this are needed. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of effective representation by analyzing the representation method so that it can be the basic data for the researchers who study advertisement illustration as learning. For the research method and scope, the features of representation were examined as the visual images delivered effectively through newspaper advertisement by investigating and analyzing the types and methods of representation, excerpting the works that had unique expressions in newspaper advertisement and books issued since 1990s that advertisement illustration had been emerged as a new concern. As a result of such study, effective image representation in newspaper advertisement should provide independent feeling with simplicity, attention, differentiation, clarity, and shape visually based on free imagination.
