This article analyzes three conceptualizations of the representation of the French intervention in Mexico of the 19th century. Focusing on the image of the president Benito Juarez, we have selected the work of three authors who were born under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Two of the authors wrote on Mexican history, while the other was a playwright, producing their works at the beginning and end of the 20th century. This work emphasizes the style differences and the sense of the historical discourses which show the specific interests of each author, and the nature of the division between history and fiction which is not so forceful in the historical record, as also claimed in the respective works of Hayden White and Paul Ricoeur.
