Under the prerequisite that author"s consciousness could be interpreted related to color if color has close relationship with human subconsciousness, desire or psychology, this study analyzed Oh Jeong-Hee"s 「Garden of Childhood」 and examined a characteristic of growth novel by application of color psychology.
So this study understands psychology and consciousness shown by characters through repeatedly appeared color image in Oh Jeong-Hee"s novel, and analyzed how effectively the color image reveals a aspect of a female growth novel.
The yellow color was mainly used to reveal a vague mentality and anxiety of a little female character who watches desires. The yellow image functions as revealing dim self-consciousness on life as a female being presenting weak inner side of main character more sensuously and in detail.
The red color image was used mainly to describe body which pursuits desire. As a color which lost purity, this red color functions to express mother"s desire, who violates taboo, and to reveals a world of rebellion. And because of image of tension and confliction caused by red color, it contributes to extend the psychology of anxiety and fear that the little female main character feels.
The pink color image is frequently used to describe the body which pursuit desire with combination of sun light and white color etc. This pink color image contributes for Norangnuni to recognize the body without birth as pure being, and functions to make Norangnuni recognize female being"s sexual desire as positive one by connecting body of grand mother and sexual desire of Bune to softness, joy and praise. To describe a body that its desire is under watch, mainly achromatic color was used.
We could know the various color image appeared in 「Garden of Childhood」 contributes to present psychology of a little female character in detail, which were experience in the process of growth.
This color image does a function of revelation of fear on growth as a female being by revealing chaos and confusing psychology of the main character, forming anxiety on rebellious body, showing a praising psychology on the being which pursuit desire.
