The Dae Jung Ilbo was the first published local newspaper in Incheon in Oct. 7, 1945. At that time, there was a consensus that we, Korean people, should eradicate residues of imperial culture of Japan and establish the proper national culture. The Daejung Ilbo, too, did not turn its face away the demands of the time. That was well reflected in the literary works published in the Daejung Ilbo. American military administration-governed period - at that time the Daejung Ilbo was published, was called‘ the time of poetry’. The reason that poetry is much published more than any other literary genres - the phenomenon that poetry became the dominant literary genre. - is that poems can deal with the social changes easily. In other words, this was related with the fact that verse generally was thought to be the literary type to reflect social changes more than prose with ease. The literary works published in the Daejung Ilbo can be divided into the genres, poems and novels. The poems deals with two aspects: one group reflects changing social aspects, the other reflects individual lyrical matters. In the case of novels, most of the novels published in the Daejung Ilbo was unfinished and incomplete. That was very regrettable.
