A city is divided into economy-based region and dwelling region. Dwelling region is the smallest unit that citizens are living, and that root for city"s sustainable activation. For the activation, community and residents" own capabilities are important as functions of dwelling region. U.K and Japan having declined city started emphasizes autogenous ability, so related regeneration system is established and residents’ own capabilities are strengthened. Therefore, securement of residents" own capabilities and autogenous ability of declined regions are important for urban regeneration of dwelling region as well as securement of economy foundation such as attracting companies, job creation, etc. In other words, community resilience is important to recover community in dwelling region and strengthen residents" own capabilities. Now, a study on methodology of community resilience is on initial phase. Therefore, a methods and positive methodologies are necessary for practicing community resilience. This paper defines the concept of the community resilience in urban residential area through analysis of other study on it. Then, this study analyzes two cases of community regeneration for raising resilience in declined community. Subjects as a case study were analyzed in this paper; Changdong district in Changwon city that is recovered from declined a dark alleyway which had been the hub for arts and culture in the 1970s to new artist village in the city, and Nosongdong district of in Jeonju city that is recovered from a socially deprived to a resilient community. This thesis suggests the implementation process and action techniques of urban regeneration to possess community resilience, analyzing the causes of the urban decline, the methods of regeneration, and the results of urban regeneration throughout the two cases.
