In this essay I intended to examine and evaluate Kant’s mind-body interaction theory in terms of comtemporary neuroscience. My main goal is to refute Descartes arguments based on the existence of mind and mind-body interaction so as to revive Kant’s ideas successfully. First, Kant asserted that mind was nothing but function being inside our consciousness and false representation which could be known by nobody. And my mind itself is not located in my brain, although it is said with analogy that my brain is the place of my mind since my consciousness is occurring inside it. So it is said reasonably in neuroscience that mind is called illusions which the interpreter of left-brain create. Secondly, Kant asserted that mind is not simply thinking substance as a separated organ, but is able to think when it merged with body. I would be a mind when I am determined by my body and interact with it at the same time. Kant agreed that the interactions of both things are natural phenomenons but it is difficult to elucidate their mechanism with valid proof. But neuroscience makes attempt to identify mechanism how macrocosmic structure of mind emanates from microcosmic structure of neurons. Mind emanating from neuro-functions stimulates brain as matrix and vice versa in the same way. Mind is simply a piece of emanated consciousness and can not be regarded as a thinking subject based upon existing substance. Therefore a belief that there is one solid being which unites other sorts of consciousness is proved to be illusion and misunderstanding. But still we need such a belief that there is a mind as a separate being in human life. These are the main arguments both of Kant’s philosophy in the 18th Century and of neuroscience in the 21th Century. So Kant’s theory of mind-body interaction theory is worthy of reading even in modern era.
