This study examines how social discrimination against women was perceived and what kind of solutions were explored, focusing on Im yoonjidang and Wollstonecraft, two women who lived in the same time period of the 18th century in different countries of Chosun and Britain. Despite the physical distance between them and the significant differences in the societies they lived in, the two women shared the same experience in the aspect that they both lived a "woman"s life" a life without the ability to participate in the public sector or freely pursue the academia and arts. In their respective societies, the two women began to develop a critical mind on such "woman"s life", which was always accepted as something "natural" or "predestined", and tried to resolve or at least elucidate the discrimination against women. However, there is still a considerable difference in the specific kind of problems these two women discovered in the shared experience of "dominant male-subordinate female", or their attitudes in dealing with them. The objective of this study is to illustrate the similarities and differences Yoonjidang and Wollstonecraft showed, and while doing so, to understand the various actions women take after realizing the reality of "discrimination" and the conditions that influence such actions. Through this, this study will not only keep watch so that the "universality" of the feminist discourse that targets the general phenomenon of "dominant male-subordinate female" does not fall prey to the boundary of representing the experience of only a certain type of group of women, but also try to fathom where and why we need to seek and solve the problems of discrimination against women which still remain right here to this day.
