Studies on the influence of parental child-rearing attitudes on youth’s attitude toward homosexuality are in its early stage and require further research. This study examined the mediating effect of authoritarian personality in the relationship between parental child-rearing attitude and youth’s attitude toward homosexuality. The results were as follows. The results of regression analysis on the mediating effect of authoritarian personality in the relationship between parental child-rearing attitude and children’s attitude on homosexuality presented that authoritarianism had a complete mediating effect on the relationship between mother’s autonomous-controlling child-rearing attitudes and children’s attitude toward homosexuality. In order to examine the mediating effect depending on the belief of homosexual causes, regression analysis was carried out. The results of high school students who responded the cause of homosexuals as "acquired" proved that there is a partial mediating effect of authoritarianism on the relationship between mother’s autonomous-controlling child-rearing attitudes and children’ attitude toward homosexuality. If mother’s child-rearing attitude is more autonomous to high school students who responded with ‘acquired’ as the cause of homosexuals, their authoritarian personality becomes lower, and therefore, the level of their hatred for homosexuality decreases as well. This study has its meaning in that it projected several necessary methods for parents to use appropriate child-rearing attitudes and for youths to decrease their authoritarian personality.
