Aren’t ancient natural philosophers, such as Plato and Descartes, responsible for the thought of ontological materialistic reductionism, which stems from the human view of body-spirit dualism? And what effects sophists, such as Kant, Mill, and Singer, made on the public ethical questions surrrounding human embryo destruction and the right to die? This study aims at finding out the possible answers to these philosophical questions. Loss of human status and morality seems to cause people to separate intrinsic values from a being because of imperfect recognition of the human entity, and misunderstanding of the ontological dignity, positions, meanings, or aims of human existence itself. People tend to reject all concepts which refer to non observable things and only recognize physical and functional values that are measured by experiences or feelings. These attitudes promote relativism and skepticism and widely spreads utilitarianism, which emphasizes only personal choice and outcomes and balancing benefits and harm. Meanwhile, Kant"s constructivism recognizing reality as what a person perceives, which arbitrarily consists of making the good because of duty, has transformed the meaning of the person. As a result, objective universal truths that are the foundation of human life became reduced to non-transmittable emotions or religious concepts. Thus, in order to prevent these consecutive collapses, this study analyses the basic causes threatening human dignity and morality and examines the ontological personalism of Boethius and St. Thomas Aquinas, who discovered the intrinsic values of human existence. They found the human entity to be more unitary and balanced--a perfect unity of body and spirit. The act of being varies, but the essence or spirit soul consisting of human entity persists over his or her whole life. Accordingly, everybody must be respected as a person independently of his or her functional ability. Therefore, the restoration of ontological personalism will be the optimal solution to the problem of justice for the weak and to the loss of human position in the universe and morality.
