This study viewed main factors of industrial competitiveness as industrial linkage, locational comparative advantage, and growth factors and analyzed industrial linkage of machinery industry in the city of Deagu and its industrial competitiveness. The study result showed that the city of Deagu"s machinery industries had the highest intra-industry forward and backward linkage in the year of 2005, 2010, and 2013. In addition, it was found that that there is high rate of forward and backward linkage in metal goods, primary metal goods, wholesale and retail sales, finance and insurance service, and so on. Secondly, this study conducted locational comparative advantage analysis to compare these industries’ outturn and employees and thus metal goods, wholesale and retail sales, and finance and insurance services were classified as a special industry. Thirdly, when a growth factor of value-added manufacturing studied, it was found that machinery industries are favorable in both industrial structure and location condition, which enhances agglomeration economies and industrial competitiveness. Moreover, the study indicated that metal goods industry was favorable in industrial structure, but it was insufficient for standards of location condition. In summary, machinery industries in the city of Daegu are highly competitive domestically and regionally. In order to revitalize the machinery industry, it should accompany with metal goods, wholesale and retail sales, and finance and insurance services.
