The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of exercise on the obesity indices, muscle function and height of growing girls. 45 girls aged from 9 to 14 were grouped into exercise group and have carried on exercise program composed of aerobic exercise, isokinetic weight training and stretching, around one hour a day about three times a week for three month. Another 45girls of same ages were grouped into control group and haven`t done any exercise program for three months. The results of this study were following: In the change of height, exercise group showed more increases than control group in all ages, but the statistical significance was showed only in 9 and 11 year olds. In the change of weight and BMI, control group showed more increases than exercise group in all ages, but the statistical significance was showed only in 9 year old. In the change of %Body fat, exercise group showed more decreases than exercise group in all ages, and the statistical significance was showed in all ages except 9. In the change of leg muscle functions, exercise group showed more improvements than exercise group in all ages, and the statistical significance was showed in most variables. In the change of lumbar muscle functions, exercise group showed more improvements than control group in all ages, and the statistical significance was showed in most variables. In the change of lumbar flexibility, exercise group showed more improvements than exercise group in all ages, and the statistical significance was showed in all ages except 12 and 14. After carrying out the exercise program, the monthly height increase in exercise group were bigger than control group, BMI and %Body fat were decreased in most ages, and the flexibility and knee and lumbar muscle functions were improved in all ages. we can concluded that exercise program has positive effect on youth growth.
