The Difference between the Negative Polarity Items of English & Korean Simple Sentences. The New Studies of English Language & Literature 65 (2016): 159-180. This paper examines the difference between any-type and amwu-type NPIs of English and Korean simple sentences. Several interesting things were found in the study: (i) All the KSL and ESL groups produced more NPIs in the object position than in the subject position, (ii) the more fluent in Korean the KSL learners were, the more NPIs they produced in both subject and object positions, (iii) the KSL groups produced much more relative clauses than the ESL groups did in both subject and object positions, and (iv) all three KSL groups exhibited a strong preference for the relative clause responses.
