Nowadays, documentaries do not exist in the form of movie or TV program only. They are not trapped in the certain type of media and can be transformed and restructured according to the variation of platform. In the case of Web Documentaries, unlike traditional TV/Film documentaries, those contents are distributed and utilized through the Web. So Web Documentaries have fresh value as a type of contents but also surpass the simple interactive contents and multimedia texts as they reflect the various media features of Web Media. This study examines the characteristics and the implications of Web Documentaries by focussing on the Prison Valley which heralded the advent and potentiality of Web Documentaries. Prison Valley proceeds its narrative by utilizing the spatial features of Web. It expands the text of the documentary based on broad dimension of interactions such as interaction between users and Web itself, and interaction between users through Web. Also it contains structural feature which multiple factors integrated in the form of database. These textual characteristics make Web Documentaries into more flexible structure, enabling users to experience more meaningful story through organizing individually pluralistic contents based on abundant data. Also Web Documentaries are demonstrating that they are not just part of completed narrative but they are designing text structures that users can experience diverse story. Web Documentaries are the novel documentary form of Digital Convergence Era, which are beyond media technological phenomenon and bring out questions toward the essence of documentaries.
