The purpose of this paper is to examine the excavated costume from tomb of Seonseonggun Lee Heum(1522∼1562), during moving grave at Byeolnaedong, Namyangju Gyeonggi Province Korea in 2008. Lee Heum is the great-grandson of Seongjong in Joseon Dynasty. This is the first case which resolved the costume of royal family in mid-late 16th century, of definite date, in good condition, for the excavated costume from tomb of Lee Heum. This costume, it can recover the part of clothing life of royal family in mid-late 16th century in Joseon Dynasty. The meaning of this study is that we can utilize it as standard of male costume in mid-late 16th century in Joseon Dynasty, by investigating the male costume of distinct date and status in 16th century. The costume was Danryeong, Jikryeong, Dapho, Cheollik, Ackjurum, Children’s jacket, Jacket, Hansam, Jeoksam, and pants. Excepting 1 piece of Dapho among 9 pieces such as Danryeong, Jikryeong, Dapho, Ackjurum, all are the front-short and rear-long type(前短後長形). The shape of collar of Jikryeong, Dapho, Cheollik, Ackjurum is all folded collar. The most resolved clothes among robe is Cheollik, and it shows that Cheollik is put on as daily dress among male dress in early Joseon Dynasty. It has resolved one piece of jacket for children, and we can know the part of custom for funeral rites. For male pants, Gaedanggo and Hapdanggo are resolved, so it can check the shape of male pants in early Joseon Dynasty. Although it is not resolved, we can confirm that the effect of Buddhism is existed even for royal family in mid-late 16th century, by knowing Dharani(陀羅尼) is used for funeral rites on daerum (大殮).
