This study empirically tests the relationships between behavioral intention and its determinants (type of value-seeking: hedonic vs. utilitarian; type of relational satisfaction: satisfaction vs. dissatisfaction; switching costs) using logistic regression in the context of beauty salon. We test a total of four research objectives and the findings are as follows. First, the dissatisfied group is low levels of relational durability compared to the satisfaction group, whereas the relationship between consumer stress and relational durability is not significant. Second, there is no significance of customer defection between hedonic and utilitarian groups. Third, the loyal group with satisfied experience is likely to decrease the rate of customer defection, whereas the non-loyal group with dissatisfied experience is likely to increase the rate of customer defection. Fourth, customers who have hedonic-seeking and high switching costs show much higher loyalty than other customers. The authors discuss theoretical and practical implications and provide limitations for future research.
