An attempt was made to understand the concept and origin of dance drama and inquire into the temporal stream of korean dance drama through the historical background. The following findings were obtained; Firstly, it was noted that the bodily movement to communicate with God and the theatrical element coexisted as the motive for religious dance, especially greyer dance, to mediate the communication between God and man. Secondly, dance, originated from rites and the primitive life, has continue to develop into the creation of the beauty world through bodily expression by means of human instinct and artistic nature. Thirdly, the effect of drama, the verbal function of dance, added to its importance due to the specialization, systematization and organization of the constituent elements of drama. Fourthly, dance is a type of compositive art. The dance drama that introduced the dramatic element by imposing the plot on dance has so far developed into performance art, especially theater art. Taken together, dance drama has systematized the concrete development of its components and been recognized as having artistry in the process that it has developed and changed to suit the temporal and historical background of korea. But, it is thought that the structural elements of our dance drama that drastically changed amid the historical background of the enlightening period will requir. The fostering of the more activated environment such as its professional position and the education environment and system and so on.
