Radical and cultural feminist notions of women and sexuality often collide with transgender politics and queer politics. Cultural feminist practice such as the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival and the radical feminist activism of anti-pornography legislation movement in the 1980s are the cases in point in which we encounter those colliding moments. While former generated controversy over its policy to exclude trans women from the event, the latter raised “sex war.” The conflict between cultural feminist and trans women lied on the matter of body and sex as the material basis of gender. Anti-porn radical feminist theorized heterosexuality as a domain of total oppression and paradoxically foreclosed the possibility of women’s sexual agency while queer feminists such as Gayle Rubin defined sexuality as a domain of resistance apart from gender. In the end, the history of radical, cultural and lesbian feminist politics has evolved through its tangled relations with transgender shitory and queer politics.
