Korea became an aged society in 2018 and the number of elderly people is steadily increasing. As many of the changes in the physical and social functions occur, welfare facilities for the elderly have emerged to manage them professionally. However, despite the increasing number of elderly people in Ulsan, the number of elderly welfare facilities is insufficient and its existing facilities are concentrated in the suburbs. Also, Ulsan has a small number of cultural facilities. The purpose of this project is to induce active interaction between the elderly and local residents by combining the elderly welfare facility with art gallery. This project may also improve the awareness of the elderly welfare facilities by contributing to the cultural development of the community. After analyzing the sociological and behavioral characteristics of the elderly and investigating the local characteristics of Ulsan and the case studies of overseas facilities, two buildings were planned. One building(A) was designed for the elderly and Ulsan residents to share, such as the art gallery, the workroom, and the library and residential spaces for the elderly were planned at the other building(B). This Project can be a good example of the elderly welfare facilities contributing to local cultural development and also serving as a residential space.
