The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of knee extensor muscle fatigue on position senses in stroke patients and to provide understanding and therapeutic efficacy in stroke patients. The subjects of this study were 16 stroke patients and 16 normal peoples. Both stroke patient control group and normal control group were measured using maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) for leading knee extensor fatigue. The maximum voluntary isometric contraction was measured by performing isometric contractions of the knee extensor 4 times for 5 seconds each. Isometric contraction was terminated when the maximum voluntary isometric contraction was less than 50% for 3 consecutive rounds. Immediately thereafter, position sense ability test was performed. As a result, the number of sets of the maximum voluntary isometric contraction performed to induce muscle fatigue of the knee extensor showed a statistically significant difference between the paralyzed and non-paralyzed stroke groups (p<.05). And position sense tests performed in stroke and control groups before and after knee extensor muscle fatigue. Non-dominant control group, dominant control group and non-paralyzed stroke group the knee flexion angle showed a statistically significant increase (p<.05, p<.01). These results showed that local knee extensor muscle fatigue significantly affects position sense changes in non-paralyzed rather than paralyzed stroke patients.
