In this study, in order to analyze settlement of new words accepted in the early 20th century in modern Japanese, we investigated registration of the new words in dictionary (Daizirin 3rd edition) and Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese(BCCWJ). And we compared it with number of Google Internet searches.
Registration ratio of new words in the dictionary and the BCCWJ is approximately 50%. For the analysis of new words, we divided it into 4 groups; new words unregistered in both the dictionary and the BCCWJ, new words registered only in the dictionary, new words registered only in the BCCWJ, new words registered in both the dictionary and BCCWJ. About 40%의 the new words registered in both the dictionary and BCCWJ and Chinese words are dominant in this group.
The results of this study shows high correlation between the registration (in the dictionary and the BCCWJ) and the number of Google Internet searches. In other words, new words registered in both the dictionary and the BCCWJ tend to have higher number of Google Internet searches then other groups.
