The purpose of this study was to examine whether a Social Capital Questionnaire of Parent-Child Relationships for preschool aged children (SCQPC-P) was a valid measure to measure social capital of parent-child relationships in early childhood. The SCQPC was originally developed for elementary 6th grade students (An, 2004). The participants were 246 parents of 3- to 6-year children at preschools and daycare centers in Gyeonggi-do and Kangwon-do. Items of the SCQPC-P were modified from items of the SCQPC for the purpose of this study and examined content validity of the SCQPC-P. The results were as follows. First, response distribution of the items was normal and item discrimination was good. Second, after exploratory factor analysis, 5 factors were categorized: 1) active educational support, 2) play participation and communication, 3) participation in preschool/daycare-center activities, 4) guidance, and 5) expectations, and the total variance explained was 54.44%. Third, the entire scales’ Cronbach α was .86 and each of five sub-scales ranged from .71 to .86. This study’s findings suggest that understanding the social capital of parent-child relationship in early childhood needs to be improved by using the valid and reliable SCQPC-P for providing fundamental information to develop early childhood parent education program that considers connectivity of parent education between early childhood and elementary education.
