The 5.8-magnitude earthquake, the most powerful seismic activity since 1978, occurred in 12 September 2016 in the historic city of Gyeongju which is one of the prominent tourist destinations possessing the UNESCO World Heritage in Korea. The earthquakes caused not only the change of tourism industry but also economic, sociocultural and environmental changes. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze various phenomena which occurred in Gyeongju after 2016 Gyeongju earthquake. A content analysis was performed on the total of 430 articles from three Korean major daily newspapers published from 12 September 2016 to 31 December 2017. This study proposed key implications and directions for risk management to prevent and overcome disaster crisis in tourism industry based on the results of the analysis.
