The book of NIHONSHOKI was completed in AD.720 years. This book is regarded as the first written history book of Japan form the origin tale to the Jito Tenno emperor. The book has 30 volumes. The first two volumes consist with myths. Because of it is a history book, it takes many quotes not only quotes a lot of other historical books, but also quotes dialogues of many historical figures. When it takes quotation, we can see some specific Chinese characters such as "曰云言謂語" and so on. The most used of them is the word "曰". I have already researched of the most used of "曰" in them and clarified the meaning and usage of "曰". In this paper, examined of "云" which is seen after "曰".
The usage of "云" as a verb is scattered in all 30 volumes and they are used for both general quotations and narratives’ quotations. The examples of "云" that are used for general quotations can be categorized in to general citations and talk citations. In general quotes the most common use of "云" is used to describe how to read difficult words. It is possible to know the consciousness of character of the compiler who is trying to use "曰" for names quotation and "云" for quoting the methods of reading word which is difficult to read. It was characterized by volume distribution when"云" is used for quoting an unspecified theory. In the quotation of conversation the usage of "云" shows the characteristics of volume distribution, but there is not seen discrimination of the relation between the subject of dialogue and the subject of conversation.
